All pictures were taken from the last prototype of the Crawler Transporter model during its assembly, so various stages from the construction are depicted. Everything is paper made, and part of the kit. I did a lot to make the building instructions as clear as possible, however this additional reference might be helpful.

If you still are not sure about purchasing a kit, these pictures hopefully are a good appetizer ;) !

Side 3
Looking at Side 3 you see the ladder, that leads to the platform of the Mobile Launcher. The viewing angle also depicts the ‘belly’ of the Crawler. Placed at the front of the chassis are the two water cooling radiators and the fuel tank.

Corner D
Here you have a good view to the Guide- and JEL Tubes. The wrinkled covers are made from the included tissue paper (now you know what it is good for).

The Cab as it looked like during the moon landing missions. In the year 2003 it was renewed when the two Crawlers underwent a major upgrade.

View to the Cab’s interior and to the front of the truck. The distinctive oil sprinklers in front of the cleats are still missing, they were added later during the Shuttle program. Also, the Cab’s interior was modernized after the moon landing aera.

Corner C / Side 4
The ‘backyard’ of the Crawler, as the main entrance is at Side 2. The color of the blower housings at the front of the trucks has been corrected to gray in the kit.

Side 4
Although the Crawlers are said to be ugly, they certainly have elegant aspects like this one. The flat appearance together with the complex details makes it a great subject for modeling.

Details at Corner C. Experts among you will identify the significant appearance of Crawler #2. I know this picture is not perfect, however shots from a professional photographer will follow soon.

Ten Years After
The day, when the preprints of the kit arrived. The end of a long journey. And the start of a new adventure. A small cut for a man, but a giant leap for paper card modeling ;)

Chassis assembly
As pointed out in the building instructions, you should not glue the frame parts right from the start, but just stick them together and fix them with a little yarn. In this early stage, the Chassis is not very stable, but once all frame parts are glued together it will become very stiff. Use a piece of card stock in the center for temporary support as depicted.

Finished Chassis framework. Note that the fuel tanks must be installed already in an earier stage. The frames along Side 2 and Side 4 are boxes, also the cental diagonal frames. At the frontal diagonal frames, only two beams at the bottom are boxes.

A view to the Corner structure
This is how the Corner structure looks like also in reality. Although all parts for each Corner are alike in this stage, they have different markings so be sure to place each Corner at its correct position. Note that the triangular shaped truss touches the outcast section only with its tip. Be very careful when attaching the outcast section so that it is not tilted

The Belly
Also the bottom of the Crawler Transporter is fully featured in the model. At this stage, the Chassis is now very stiff. The openings on the floor are left for the air filters.

Cab assembly
The Cab’s interior of the Crawler Transporter, as it looked like +40 years ago. After the end of the Apollo program, new instruments with a new layout and a more comfortable arrangement were installed, while the Cab itself remained nearly unchanged.

The Cab in its final position at Corner B and D. As for the outcast section, be careful when attaching the Cab to avoid a tilted position.

Walkway & Cabling
Added for the advanced modeler, the Cabling parts dramatically improve the realism of your Crawler Transporter model, however require good modeling skills and a lot of patience. You might want to try any custom material for the paper parts instead. The assembly of the walkway starts with the supports attached to the Chassis; this not only follows reality, but also insures a perfect horizontal alignment of the walkway sections..

Walkway & Cabling
This is how the basic frame of the walkway section fits into the support trusses. Note that you should attach the handrails to the basic frame first before you eventually fix the walkway section to the supports.

Finished Walkway and Cabling at Corner C. Most important for a good appearance, is the alignment of the handrails. Due to their color they are very visible on the finished model, and our eyes are very sensitive for parallel lines.

Inside View
Good view to the connection between the truck and its inner steering cylinders. They were added after first tests of the Crawler Transporter showed, that the outer steering cylinders alone were too weak to push the trucks.

Upside down
We reveal the finished bottom of the Crawler Transporter. There might be still some wiring missing, however as it is hardly seen on the finished model I decided to leave further investigations up to you ;)

The Cable Reel
One of the last details added to the Crawler Transporter model, as there was nearly no information available besides some tiny appearances on 3 pictures of the historic Crawler Transporter.

The Antenna
Although 10’ high, the antennas of the Crawler Transporter at the front and the rear are easily overseen as they disappear among the various vertical structures. Due to this fact they were often demolished and eventually fixed to the Cab after the moonlanding program.
